A COLD SUNDAY MORNING

Sunday morning…at 7AM it was two degrees below zero.
Dear Granddaughters were overnighting

We did not venture forth.

Kids were awake before us…one writing her first fiction story…the other reading a book she and our Dear Daughter had bought at the Friends of the Library sale.
A whole grocery bag for $3.00

Daughter is a member of the Friends of the Library.

Anyway, we missed Church…

French-toast breakfast followed the kids’ writing and reading and Dear Wife’s showering…which was followed by the making of four Christmas-gift placemats by the Kids for their parents…I know...Christmas if over...but better late than never.
Piano practice with Grandma…and some other doings which I missed due to my carrying on….with dishes…wood splitting…reading….and other such doings.

And so it went…until ca. 4PM when Dad arrived to collect his Wee Ones.

Journal entries have been few and far between.

We make plans and life happens.

And it is easy to avoid making comments which in this context cannot always be fully developed.

Of course the msm does this all the time….but they are the folks we/I love to criticize.

We are busy on our home front….and Lord knows that the Away From Home Front has been busy as well.

And when one gets out of the habit of contributing…it can be difficult to resume.

But Great Heavenly Day:

b.o. is moving to the center.
The msm does not recognize any inflammatory, incendiary speech from the left.
The tragic shootings in Arizona.
The nonsense of pseudoknowitalls who have been pontificating about the causes of said shooting. The polls show an uptick in b.o.’s popularity.
Talk about a fickle public…but we know that already.
The new political cycles are beginning….the new Congress is seated…and there is so much to watch and wonder and worry about there.

And oveseas, well, all the old problems continue.

Not one has been ameliorated.

Not one has succumbed to the ministrations of the anointed one.

NOT ONE!

I know…this is going negative.

Well, there is much out there to be negative about.

But one can and must and should remain hopeful….
All in God’s good time….

I have not listed any foreign catastrophes which have happened or which are waiting to happen….

And the public, the fickle public, the msm as well, which is so, forgive me, unknowing, that it/they live in the eternal present….suffer abysmally from the lack of any meaningful perspective.
Perspective, context, is soooo important.

Folks think political dialogue in 2011 has never been more negative.
Say what???
Get a life!!!!

But enough.

We are still here at The Study.

We are still watching and listening and reading and researching.
And we are still hopeful.

We are about to access a new literary tool…to recover a world of books which we have not accessed in forty years…
New electronics may be arriving at The Study…
The fireplace is glowing cherry red in the face of the subzero temps….

Thank the Good Lord for His Blessings!

Perhaps more about that later….
Modest expense…but potential great benefit…

And life goes on…..

How can anyone be bored these days…if one’s senses are operating…and one is able to interact and have some influence somewhere….

RENEWAL

Our Parish installs a new priest tonite.

Have never seen it done.

We are promised a number of visiting dignitaries.
There will be music and color and even provincial grandeur…for we are in the boonies, as it were.

Although times they are achangin’, we will touch of the ancient tonight.
And that in itself is good.

SUGGESTIONS

Just saw a movie: The King’s Speech.

If you care for the Special Relationship, see the movie.

If you have friends who love the UK and things British, see the movie with them.

If you don’t have such friends, but you love those things, see the movie anyway.

If you can, go to an afterglow with them in a pub or whatever and talk about the film, things British, and whatever.

Or go by yourself.

To die for!!!

Just started a new book series: Patrick Taylor’s series about an Irish GP practicing in a rural Irish village.

Just finished the first of maybe six volumes.
Volume One: An Irish Country Doctor, Patrick Taylor.

The author is an interesting guy. Unusual bio.

His daughter sings like an angel.

If you love ‘tings Irish…and like the simple, beautiful ‘tings, as the Irish might say, you just might love the series.

We have been to the Western Holy Land, and it rings true.

GETTING OLDER

Depending on how you look at it, one of the drawbacks or advantages to getting older and retaining your mental faculties is the awareness of the ignorance and/or falsity of so much of our mass media and our fellow human beings.

I write in reference to the msm’s reaction to the recent Arizona shootings.

Floods of data – all or most of it incomplete…

And all the pundits proclaiming this or that…consciously or unconsciously promoting various agendas.

We have no public presence at The Study, of course, but we look, watch, and listen, and we could sometimes weep for the sea of ignorance which surrounds us.

So much data….so little wisdom.

The Band of Brothers

The news arrived a couple of days ago from a friend.

As one of the many websites dedicated to the Men of Easy puts it, when one of The Company dies,

May he rest in peace.
The eagle will always scream for our brothers !

The obituary columns of the media are now carrying the story.

I thank my informant for the heads up.

I have viewed the film a number of times. And the book is referred to often.

If you have not viewed or read, they are worth your while.

Stephen Ambrose, Band of Brothers, book and HBO miniseries.

Do yourself a favor.
Check them both out.
